The rest of the calendar is the steady weekly business of keeping grass even in a climate that will grow it for nine or ten months if allowed. There is real satisfaction in a lawn cleared back down to green in November, borders sharp, beds free of litter. Then the mild grey winter, and then it starts again early here — earlier than most places manage.
