Fog collects in the Nooksack valley most winter mornings, pooling over the old-growth cedars at Berthusen Park and the flat dairy ground around it until the sun finally burns it off well past breakfast. Wescon Enterprises Inc. works that same low ground, clearing driveways and access lanes for the farms nearby and for the park's own gravel lots whenever the fog gives way to something colder and snow comes down behind it off the mountain. Plow trucks go out before the fog lifts, working roads that are hard enough to find in July, guided as much by fence lines and mailbox posts as by the pavement underneath them. Once the valley finally clears, the cedars at Berthusen stand over lanes that are open again, farm to farm.
