Tillicum sits low and close to the water, and on the handful of nights a year when snow actually reaches Lakewood, it seems to land there first and linger longest. Junk King Tacoma runs its snow crews through those streets after dark, when the flakes are still falling and most of the neighborhood has already gone in for the night. There's something almost peaceful about plowing an empty residential grid at 11 p.m., the truck's lights the only ones moving, driveway after driveway coming up clean under a thin coat of fresh powder. Nobody sees the work happen, only the result the next morning — a driveway bare enough to back out of without a second thought, on a street where every other one is still buried. That's the whole point: get it done while the town sleeps, so the town wakes up able to move.
