At Ione the Pend Oreille River does something unusual: it flows north, past town and on toward Canada, between the forested ridges of the Selkirks. Summer comes late to this far corner of the state and leaves early, so the green months feel precious here, all long June evenings and warm July afternoons before the tamaracks turn gold on the hills. Z & Z Enterprises does lawn care through that short, bright season, keeping yards mowed, trimmed and ready to enjoy while the weather allows. A crisp-cut lawn beside the river is a small celebration of a summer that had to wait its turn. When frost creeps back into the valley, the yards go to rest in good order.
