August in the Skykomish valley is river weather — bright gravel bars, cold green water, alder leaves flickering above the yards that run down toward the bank. Rugged Art Landscape Co. works those summer weeks in Gold Bar, mowing the open ground, cutting back the rough grass at the tree line, edging where lawn meets gravel and trimming what the mower cannot square off. Mountain rain returns early up this valley, so the dry stretch is when the heavy overgrowth gets brought back under control. A yard reclaimed in August stays manageable well into the fall. Shaping wild ground into something usable is the part of this trade with real pleasure in it.
