Artondale was dairy country a hundred years ago, cleared pasture running down toward the water where the forest has since taken most of it back, and Noorlander Enterprises works land that still carries the shape of those old farms in its property lines even where the barns are long gone. A hard frost reaches what's left of the open pasture faster than it does under the fir canopy nearby, and on the rare morning it turns to snow, those open stretches show it first and hold it longest. The crew clears driveways and access lanes across the peninsula with that difference in mind, moving to the shaded, tree-lined properties only after the open ground is done. Puget Sound sits close enough on both sides of this stretch of land to keep most winters mild, so a genuine snow is handled as a small event worth addressing promptly rather than routine business. Clearing ground here that farmers once cleared by hand feels fitting, even if what's grown up around it since is mostly trees.
