Holmes Harbor fills and empties twice a day at the foot of Freeland, and on a still morning the water at the park is flat enough to hold the whole treeline upside down. Andrew's Landshapers starts early on the lawns above that shoreline, where island grass grows thick and soft in the long wet season. Mowing is set to the ground rather than the calendar, edges are cut where turf wants to run over gravel and path, and the trimmer finishes what the deck cannot reach. Clippings are cleared so nothing mats down in the damp. Whidbey yards give back quickly when they are handled with attention, and a tidy lawn under the firs is a fine thing to walk out into.
