At dawn near Paine Field, the open fields along the flightline frost over hard while the roads just past the perimeter fence are still catching the last of the runway lights, and a cargo flight lifting off overhead is often the only sound before the plows start. Transblue works that edge of the city early on a snow removal route, clearing the access roads and parking areas near the airfield before moving into the residential streets that back up against it. Open ground near a runway holds frost differently than a tree-lined block a mile away, staying slicker longer into the morning. The crew treats that open stretch as its own zone before working inward toward more sheltered streets. Clearing that wide, open edge of the city early means beating the sunrise, and usually the day's first flight, too.
