Early on Rucker Hill the fog comes up off Port Gardner Bay and settles into the yards until the sun finally burns a hole through it. Omar's Landscaping is out in that hour, mower already warm, laying lines into grass still silver with wet. The lawns up here run wide and sloped toward the water, and they ask for a patient hand on the trimmer where the turf meets the old stone beds. By the time the fog lifts, the edges are cut clean, every clipping is gathered, and the yard looks like it has been holding its breath and finally let it go. That is the part worth doing right: the moment somebody steps outside with coffee and just stands there looking at it.
