First light on Colby Avenue still shows the bones of old Everett: brick storefronts, narrow angled parking, sidewalks built before anyone plowed them with a truck. Northwood Sweeping runs its snow removal work down that stretch of downtown early, clearing the walkways and curb lanes block by block while the street is still empty enough to work fast. Old brick and narrow lots don't drain the way newer pavement does, so meltwater tends to pool and refreeze right at the curb unless it's cleared all the way to the gutter. The crew moves door to door along the block before traffic and foot traffic both pick up for the day. That dense little stretch of downtown was built long before snow removal was anyone's job, and it takes a careful pace, not a fast one, to clear it right.
