The big-leaf maples and firs around Kah Tai Lagoon and the older residential blocks off Tyler Street don't carry snow well — a wet inch is enough weight to drop a limb across a driveway or a parked car, and that's usually when Jake's Tree Service gets the call before the plow even matters. Working alone through Port Townsend's quiet post-storm mornings, saw slung over a shoulder, Jake clears the downed wood first and the compacted snow underneath it second, so a driveway isn't just white but actually open end to end. The town rarely gets more than a dusting off the Strait, but the trees react to it disproportionately, branches bowing low over the side streets and the lanes up toward the bluff. Clean cuts, wood stacked to the side, the driveway visible again under a canopy that looks, within a day, like nothing happened at all.
