About Elbo Backhoe & Hauling Inc.

Out past the edge of Ellensburg, where the Kittitas Valley opens into square miles of timothy hay ground and long ranch lanes, snow doesn't stay where it falls — it drifts across open fields and piles at gates and fence corners until a lane disappears entirely. Elbo Backhoe & Hauling Inc. treats a snowed-in ranch road the way it treats a load of gravel: with real equipment, moved with purpose, until the lane is open end to end. The same machines that dig and haul the rest of the year swing into plow work when a valley storm pushes through off the Stuart Range, clearing drifts back from barns, driveways, and parking areas so trucks and stock trailers can get through. There's a bluntness to winter work out here that suits a hauling outfit — less finesse than force, less shovel than bucket — and a clear finish line: the lane is open, or it isn't. When it's open, it stays that way until the next front crosses the ridge and the work starts over.
