About Back Acres Excavating-Landscaping LLC

Mount Rainier fills the whole eastern sky above Eatonville on a clear morning, close enough from some of the ridge lots that it stops conversation, and Back Acres Excavating-Landscaping LLC works those same ridge properties and the lower ground along the Mashel River in about equal measure. Excavation is a summer trade here, cutting building pads and drainage lines into ground that turns to real clay mud the rest of the year, but a winter storm off the mountain changes the job entirely. When snow drops low enough to reach the valley floor around town, the crew runs plows down the long gravel driveways that lead back to properties tucked against the timber line, clearing a path wide enough for a delivery truck or a school bus before either one is due. The Mashel's canyon holds cold air longer than the open ridge above it, so driveways down near the river keep their ice long after the high lots have gone to bare gravel. Main Street's old false-front buildings get their sidewalks cleared same as anyone's, since a shoveled driveway that ends at an icy sidewalk doesn't solve much. By the time the mountain comes back out from behind the clouds, most of Eatonville's back roads are running again.
