March in the Sage Hills is mud and meltwater and the first arrowleaf leaves pushing up through last year's grass. Oso Landscape starts the season about then, clearing winter's mess out of yards — broken branches, gravel thrown from the road, matted leaves — and getting turf uncovered before it sours. The first mow follows, then the weekly rhythm of cutting, edging and trimming that runs until frost. Weed control keeps cheatgrass from moving in off the hillside, because out here it always tries. Watching a yard come back green in April never really gets old.
