About Charlie's Excavation
Snow is a rare visitor on this stretch of the Washington coast, where the ocean keeps Copalis Beach a few degrees warmer than towns just inland, but when a cold system does push through, it catches the driftwood-piled beach and the dune grass in a way that looks almost out of place against the grey Pacific. Charlie's Excavation runs equipment more often for storm-blown sand and washed-out gravel on the beach access roads, and on those rare snow mornings that same equipment clears the short residential streets and driveways behind the dunes before the thaw comes back in on the next wave of ocean air. The Copalis River mouth stays open and moving even in the cold snap, gulls working the tideline regardless of what's underfoot. Because it happens so seldom, a dusting of snow on the dune grass draws people out to look before it's gone by afternoon. It's coastal work in every sense, shaped as much by sand and storm surge as by the rare white morning that puts snow into the job at all.
