About Graystone Tractor Services

October on the Camano ridge: open ground gone shoulder-high and seedy, alder turning, the road down toward Elger Bay dark with rain. Graystone Tractor Services takes the wide ones — the acreage yards and pasture margins a walk-behind mower will never finish — knocking down the tall growth, mowing the open ground even, cutting back fence lines and clearing what the season has dropped across the grass. The before-and-after of a big lot is the best part of the job: shaggy at eight in the morning, flat and uniform by mid-afternoon, the whole place suddenly reading as tended. Weather comes in off the water most afternoons this time of year, so the mowing starts early and finishes ahead of it. Small yards get the same finish, just a smaller machine.
