I DO YARD Maintenance keeps that appointment — mower up the slope, string trimmer along the chain-link and the retaining wall, a clean line cut where lawn meets driveway. Afternoons up here arrive with an airplane shadow and the smell of cut grass rolling down the block. Hedges get shaped before they swallow the walk, beds get weeded, and every bag of clippings leaves with the truck. Come back Friday and the yard looks like someone is paying attention to it.
