Around Three Tree Point and Lake Burien, the streets narrow into cedar-lined lanes that stay in shadow most of a short winter day, and the marine fog that drifts in off the Sound most mornings can sit in those lanes long after it's burned off the open water nearby. The crew waits for the fog to thin enough to see the driveways clearly before running the narrower lanes, working the open lots first and saving the shaded cedar corridors for when the light finally reaches them at midday. It's slower going under those trees, where a plow blade has to thread carefully between trunks and parked cars, but the payoff is a clean lane through a stretch most trucks would rather skip. By early afternoon, the point and the lake both look like themselves again. It's patient work suited to a patient corner of Burien.
