Burien sits right under the flight path into Sea-Tac, and the first jets of the morning are already lined up overhead while the crew works the streets below, clearing driveways along the bluffs above Seahurst Park before most of the town is awake. Puget Sound rarely sends real snow this far into King County, but when a system does slide down off the Sound, it tends to catch the bluff-top streets first, where the marine wind off the water keeps the air a few degrees colder than it is a mile inland. The crew clears the steep approaches down toward the beach parks first, since those are the ones residents can least afford to have iced over. From up on the bluff, the work has company: the planes keep descending, one after another, the whole time the plows are running. By full light, the bluff streets are clear and the flights haven't slowed down once.
