About Gibbon Winter Service

Old Town Tacoma keeps its own pace, the dock at the foot of the bluff still marking where the city's first waterfront businesses stood before downtown moved south along the water. Gibbon Winter Service works that historic stretch and the streets climbing up from it, clearing snow and ice from the narrow drives that were laid out long before anyone plowed them with a truck instead of a shovel. The open water beyond the point throws its own weather at this shoreline — wind that can turn a light dusting into drifted ice against the north-facing walks by morning. The crew treats the old part of the city carefully, working around the brick and the narrow lanes rather than through them, so a plow doesn't do more damage than the storm did. It's a small, particular corner of Tacoma, and the work here stays just as particular.
