When cold air spills out through Hood Canal, it hits the exposed points around Bremerton harder than it hits the sheltered inlets, and the crew has learned to watch the wind as closely as the forecast, because a light snow out here turns to drift against fence lines and garage doors within an hour. They run the exposed streets after midnight, when the outflow is usually strongest, clearing driveways before the wind can pile the snow back into them. It's different work than the sheltered side of town, where a single plow pass in the morning is often enough; out on the point, one pass rarely holds. The crew comes back a second time if the drift keeps building, because a driveway buried again by six a.m. is worse than one never touched at all. By the time the outflow finally eases, the work is already done twice over.
