Illahee holds onto more forest than most of Bremerton, and the crew often has the road to themselves in the half hour before true sunrise, when the only tracks across a fresh skim of snow belong to deer moving between the fir stands. The lots out here are bigger and shadier than downtown's, so what melts off a sunny driveway in Manette can sit frozen under Illahee's canopy most of the day. The crew works those shaded lanes first, plowing driveways back to the garage doors before the household wakes, then follows the light as it climbs and starts thawing the open stretches on its own. By the time full daylight reaches the forest floor, the driveways are already done. It's unhurried work, timed to a sun that takes its time getting through the trees.
