Cold air pools low over the Sammamish valley on a clear winter night, and Bothell wakes some mornings under a fog bank thick enough to hide the tops of the ridges on either side. It's on those mornings that ice forms first on the roofs down in the valley bottom, while the hill homes above the fog line stay dry. Silverlining Roof works both sides of that line, clearing roof snow and ice wherever the cold bit hardest, starting low in the fog and working up as the day burns it off. The crew reads a roof's pitch and orientation before touching a ladder to it, since the shaded north slopes hold ice long after the south-facing ones have shed it. It's careful work at height, done in conditions that can shift from fog to full sun by midmorning. Long before that fog burns off the valley floor, the roofline underneath it is already bare.
