Bellevue holds onto more forest than newcomers expect — the second-growth firs at Bridle Trails, the cedar rows the older streets grew up around, shade lying flat across half the lawns in town. Washington Tree works the ground beneath that canopy: mowing and trimming, edging beds and walkways, brush and debris cleanup, and keeping grounds in order where needles and cones come down all year long. Shaded turf is its own puzzle — slower, thinner, greener in January than in August — and it repays a lighter touch and a patient schedule rather than force. On a winter afternoon, with the light going by four, a mown and raked yard under those big trunks reads almost like a corner of the park itself. That is a good thing to leave behind at the end of a day.
