Belfair's transfer station sits back off Highway 3, and after any storm that drops snow heavy enough to snap limbs, the trucks running that route stay busy for days past the last flake. Bouchard Hauling & Removal works the aftermath as much as the storm itself, clearing driveways buried under downed branches and hauling both the snow and the wood it brought down away from properties that can't wait for a spring cleanup. The Hood Canal side of town tends to catch wetter, heavier snow than the drier stretches inland, and wet snow breaks more limbs than it ever piles into drifts. Bouchard's trucks work from the water side outward, since the low ground near Lynch Cove floods when a hard freeze follows a king tide and the two problems compound each other fast. By the time the roads are bare, the last of the hauling is usually still finishing up, one truckload of broken cedar at a time.
