Elfendahl Pass Road climbs out of Belfair and over Green Mountain on its way toward Bremerton, and the driveways branching off it sit high enough to hold snow a day or two after the town below has gone back to rain. Baer Land Essentials works those upslope properties, long gravel drives cut into second-growth fir and cedar where a resident can watch the weather change just by driving down the hill. Snow this close to Hood Canal rarely stays more than a couple of days, but the shade under a full timber canopy keeps a driveway frozen well past the point the open ground near the water has cleared. The crew clears from the pass road in, working toward each house rather than out from it, since a driveway blocked at the near end strands a resident just as surely as one blocked at the far end.
