Tapani's crews spend most of the year underground, laying the pipe and cable that the region's growth needs, and the same heavy trucks that haul that work out to job sites along Highway 503 carry plow blades through the cold months. The company works its own active job sites first, since a buried trench under snow is a hazard nobody can afford, then moves to keep the haul roads open between Battle Ground and the crews working further out toward La Center and Ridgefield. It is not driveway work so much as corridor work, long stretches of gravel and mud access road that a single truck can spend an hour on before reaching the end. Snowfall this far from the coast tends to be wet and short-lived, but a foot of it sitting on an active job site can stop a crew for a day it can't spare. Clearing those roads is what lets the rest of the work keep moving underneath everything else.
