Auburn's ordinary weather is drizzle, the kind that runs off a roof and down a gutter without anyone thinking twice about it, until a cold snap catches that same runoff mid-fall and turns it to a glaze along the eaves. Rain Pros spends most of the year moving water off of roofs; on the rare hard-freeze mornings, that same attention turns toward the ground beneath them — the driveways and front walks along streets near the Interurban Trail where meltwater refreezes into black ice overnight. A downspout that empties onto a driveway is usually the first spot to ice over and the last to thaw, and the crew checks those known trouble points before touching the rest of the pavement. There's a kind of continuity in it: the same water they manage all winter in the gutters is what they're clearing off the concrete a few feet below. Neighbors along the trail notice mostly by its absence — no slick patch where the roofline drains, no need to walk wide around the mailbox post.
