Artondale sits on the kind of glacial till that makes for dramatic bluffs down to Wollochet Bay and a genuinely difficult dig everywhere else, ground Harbor Earthworks has spent enough seasons grading to know by feel. Winter here rarely means snow, but the rare cold snap that does bring it tends to catch these driveways at their worst: steep, cut into a forested lot, built on the same uneven fill that makes every excavation job on the peninsula its own puzzle. The crew clears down to that base rather than skimming the surface, because a driveway on a slope this steep holds ice in every low spot a plow blade skips over. Wollochet Bay's water moderates the cold some, keeping the peninsula a few degrees warmer than the valleys inland, but the bluffs above it still catch wind that a flatter yard wouldn't feel. It's ground the company already knows in every other season, put to use on the handful of mornings a year that ask something different of it.
