Arlington calls itself the gateway to the Cascades, and the valley narrows noticeably just east of town where the dairy farms give way to timber and the foothills start climbing toward Darrington. Ready Removal takes that gateway seriously in the winter months, watching the same weather systems that dump snow on the foothills to gauge what's likely to reach the valley floor a few hours later. Farms out past the edge of town need their lanes and yards cleared before the morning milking, which means the crew is often moving before the valley's own farmers are fully awake. A storm that's heavy in the foothills can arrive in Arlington as something milder, but the crew clears for the worst version anyway, because a blocked lane on a working dairy farm costs more than an extra hour of plowing. By the time full light reaches the valley, the gateway sign at the edge of town usually marks the line between a foothill still buried and a town center already running clean.
