Olsen Tree Service

About Olsen Tree Service

Late in the summer a dry east wind slides over Mount Erie and the island turns crisp for a few weeks — the one stretch of the year when nothing on Fidalgo is dripping. Olsen Tree Service uses it: deadwood out of the big firs along the Heart Lake road, a leaning alder taken off a shed roof, the long-overdue thinning of a yard that has grown into a forest. Pruning near the water is a question of balance, leaving enough sail in a tree that it still holds and enough gap that wind can find its way through. When the storms return and something lets go in the night, they bring the broken limbs down, cut the trunk into rounds and rake up what the chipper missed. A finished job here is quiet: a straight sightline toward Burrows Bay and grass with nothing on it.
