Dependable Land and Lawn works the ground along the Ottauquechee, where Woodstock's dooryards and clapboard streets give way to hayfields and the long green shoulder of Mount Tom. Warm months here mean mowing — lawns, then whole fields — plus landscape installs, new lawns put in by sod or seed, rototilling, aeration, fruit trees pruned back to good bones, and spring cleanups that clear the winter's litter off the grass. Come the cold, the work turns to plowing and sanding, hauling snow off-site when a village lot has nowhere left to push it, and stringing holiday lighting along the eaves while the valley goes blue at four in the afternoon. They also keep watch on seasonal houses through the deep months, weekly checks and a key on the ring. It is plain, satisfying labor: a field mown down clean, a driveway open before the first car turns onto Route 4, a yard that carries its season well.
