Munson Earth Moving Corporation works the broad clay shelf of Williston, Vermont, where the land tilts west toward Lake Champlain and east into the blue shoulders of the Green Mountains. This is earthwork at its plainest and most satisfying: land cleared and prepared, foundations backfilled, sites graded until a rough field reads like a drawing come true, water and gas and utility pipe laid down under the frost line, erosion control and stormwater shaped so the spring runoff goes where it was told. There is real pride in a grade that sheds water correctly a decade later, in a trench line healed over with grass, in a machine kept running by the shop's own hands — diesel service, hydraulic repair, structural welding, mobile field work when a jobsite can't wait. Come winter, commercial snow management takes over: lots opened wide and dark while the Champlain valley is still pale with dawn, so the doors can unlock on time. The projects reach out from Williston across Vermont — Jericho, Dorset, Northfield — and what's left behind is ground that finally sits the way it should.
