Westminster lies on the long shelf above the Connecticut River, where the valley floor runs out into old hayfields and the hills climb quickly into hardwood behind them — ground that asks for a gardener's patience and an arborist's eye at once. Hartmann Tree & Garden works that terrain across southern Vermont and New Hampshire: planting design and installation, tree installation and tree care, garden and landscape maintenance, and organic lawn care. They cut brush and keep trails open, reclaim overgrown fields, put in organic vegetable gardens, and design and install irrigation and drainage so water travels where it ought to go; for properties whose people can't always be there, they make house visits and caretake. The satisfaction is a physical one — a young tree set plumb and true, a field opened back to light after years of thorn, a border that reads clean and deliberate in the low river-valley sun of a late afternoon.
