About Appalachian Landscaping/ Mad Trees Nursery
Early morning in the Mad River Valley arrives sideways — light easing down the Green Mountain ridgelines onto Waitsfield's fields while the river still runs cold under the covered bridge. That is the hour Appalachian Landscaping loads out, a landscaping outfit paired with Mad Trees, a nursery offering hardy, regionally grown plants direct from the growers: trees, shrubs, fruits, and perennials. There is a plain pleasure in what the work leaves behind — a maple set where it will shade a dooryard, stone laid into a wall or terrace so it looks like it grew there, a lawn kept even and green clear to its edge. From mid-May through mid-October their plants travel down to the Waitsfield Farmers' Market, root-balls damp, waiting on somebody's yard. Central Vermont keeps what is planted well in it, and that is the whole point.
