The mower takes its first pass at the low end of a Stowe dooryard and the sound settles into something steady — blade, wrist, blade — until the whole yard lies down in clean parallel light. Country Cut Lawns keeps that rhythm all through the green months, mowing and trimming and edging under the long shoulder of Mount Mansfield, then trades it in November for the patient growl of a plow shaping a driveway smooth before the village steeple has caught the sun. This is hill-country ground: pitched drives, sugar maples leaning over the road toward Smugglers' Notch, snow that arrives generously and settles in to stay. There is a real satisfaction in a border held crisp against the treeline, and in finding the morning's first tire tracks laid down on bare pavement. Across Stowe and the nearby Lamoille valley towns, it is lawn care in summer and snow removal in winter — the same attention, at two different temperatures.
