About Great Brook LLC

The work begins as sound — a mower deck finding its line along a fence, a plow blade set down and drawn clean, the small ratcheting adjustments a pair of hands makes before anything else moves. Great Brook LLC keeps lawns and driveways in order around Springfield, Vermont, where the Black River drops through the village and the old brick of the machine shops holds the afternoon light a little longer than the hills standing behind them. In summer the reward is a striped yard and an edge so crisp it looks ruled, grass trimmed close where the stone wall runs out; in winter it is a dooryard opened before the valley has taken on any color at all. Up the side roads toward North Springfield, Chester and Weathersfield, the season gets measured by what has been cut and what has been pushed aside.
