About Northern Sheild Services

There is a week in South Burlington when the ground along Shelburne Road goes stiff and the wind off Lake Champlain changes its mind — and that is when Northern Shield Services trades grade stakes for plow blades. The open months are spent moving earth: excavation and site work, trucking, paving laid smooth and true across ground that spent the winter heaving. Then the light turns low and blue behind the Adirondacks, and the work becomes plowing and salting before the first commuters are out, a lot opened black and clean while the valley is still asleep. Grounds care and ongoing maintenance fill the months between, the unglamorous keeping-up that makes a property look like someone is paying attention. It is a plain, durable pleasure — a driveway with a true edge, a site that holds whatever the sky sends it.
