Late October on the Searsburg heights, when the maples have let go and the first hard wind comes over the ridge off the Green Mountain National Forest, the work turns with the weather — pruning cuts and hazard limbs give way to storm calls and snow shoveled off roofs and decks before the load finds a weak rafter.
