Rutland lies low in the Otter Creek valley, where December light gives out by four and the wind coming off Killington arrives carrying its own weather — inches of it some mornings, banked hard against every door and drive. Primo Corporation works that hour, handling snow management across Rutland, Killington, Woodstock, and Manchester, clearing accumulation before the day needs the ground back. Through the rest of the year the work turns to the outside of a building: roofing, siding, fascia and soffit, seamless gutters, windows, doors and skylights, decks, and metal fabrication — the shell that decides how a Vermont winter gets met. There is a plain, physical satisfaction in all of it, the kind you can stand back and look at: a roofline shedding clean, a gutter carrying the March melt wide of the sill, a lot scraped down to dark pavement while the marble hills are still blue with dawn.
