South Royalton's green sits square in the middle of town with the old depot and the river beyond it, and in winter it is the first place the snow shows up level and untouched. United Ag & Turf works the plowing side of that season — commercial lots, drives and access ways cleared, walkways and doorways shoveled, sand and salt laid where feet and tires go. The White River valley funnels cold air, so what melts by afternoon is ice again by dark, and the second visit counts as much as the first. Banks get shoved well back early in the winter to leave room for February. By the time the village is stirring the lots are open and the day can start on time.
