By the middle of October the hills around Pownal have gone gold and rust, and the leaves begin finding their way into every yard in town. Tug Life Yard Works is out ahead of them, mowing right up to the frosts and then turning to the fall cleanup, raking and hauling until the grass shows again. Through the summer the work is simpler: cut, trim the fence and foundation lines, leave the walks clean. Spring starts the whole cycle over, clearing off what winter left behind. A Pownal yard held tidy at both ends of the year is easy to spot from the road.
