Most of Mount Tabor is forest: the Green Mountain National Forest climbs east from the Otter Creek valley and covers the bulk of the town, including the wild country around Big Branch. Homes gather along the lower ground near Route 7, with the mountainside rising behind them in a wall of spruce and hardwood.
