By late August the corn on the Lamoille bottomland in Milton stands taller than a truck, and the valley holds its heat until well after dark. Matt Myette Landscaping is out in it — mowing, trimming, keeping lawns even and edges honest while the season runs at full tilt. Autumn turns the work to leaves and cleanups; winter turns it to plowing, shoveling and sanding on driveways that faced the wrong way when the wind picked up. The pleasure in it is small and repeatable: a dooryard scraped clean and wide enough to turn around in, a yard that reads finished from the road. That's the whole ambition, and it's enough.
