Route 4 climbs out of Rutland toward Sherburne Pass, and the weather changes on you somewhere in the middle of that grade. Mosher Excavating, Inc. works the Killington side of it in winter, moving snow with equipment sized for what this town actually gets: plowing, pushing back banks, stacking and relocating piles when a lot runs out of room. A whole season of snow has to go somewhere, and deciding where is half the job. Walks and entries get cleared down to a clean surface. There is a certain plain pride in a parking lot that is still full-sized in February.
