Route 15 bends with the Lamoille River through Hardwick, past brick storefronts raised in the town's granite years, and in winter that road is how the whole place gets where it's going. Route 15 Snow Plows takes its name from that highway and its work from the snow that piles along it, plowing driveways and clearing snow across Hardwick. On the coldest mornings the river steams through town under a hard blue sky, and the cold bites at anything left uncleared. Getting a drive open before the day begins, banks pushed well back and the ridge the road plow leaves across the driveway mouth scraped away, is the job, and the proof shows by first light.
