Guilford is a town of big trees, sugar maples leaning over the back roads and hemlock standing dark along the Green River, with the covered bridge sitting in their shade all summer. Anson Baldwin Tree Care works among them, pruning limbs back off roofs and wires, taking down what is dead or leaning wrong, then clearing the brush and leaving the yard better than it was found. Good tree work is mostly judgment, knowing which branch to take and which one carries the shape of the whole tree. Storms roll up the valley from the Massachusetts line and leave their arguments in the canopy, and those get answered too. Afterward the light through a thinned crown falls differently on the lawn, and everyone notices without quite knowing why.
