East Montpelier is hayfield and hedgerow — the Kingsbury Branch winding down toward the Winooski, dirt roads climbing past dairy barns toward Adamant. Land Care keeps the mowed ground in that landscape looking deliberate: regular cutting, trimmed edges, cleanups in spring when the melt leaves its litter and again in fall when the maples let go. A yard out here is a small clearing held against a great deal of green, and holding it takes attention. The reward is simple — mown lines laid clean across a Sodom Pond Road lawn on a warm afternoon, everything trim where grass meets field.
