About Northeast Excavating LLC

Late in the fall, when the last apple light drains out of the West River hills, the machines around Dummerston change their errand — from opening ground to keeping it passable. Northeast Excavating LLC works the dirt roads and hillside driveways of southern Vermont from East Dummerston and Chester: house sites cleared, septic systems set new or replaced, retaining walls and stonework stacked against a slope, driveways cut and repaired, ponds dug, basement walls rebuilt, fields and brush mowed back to open sky. There is a plain satisfaction in that kind of day — a wall that shrugs off a hard rain, a drive graded so the runoff goes exactly where you told it, a yard that finally lies the way the land always wanted to. Then winter closes over the valley and the same trucks are out ahead of the light, pushing snow back until the road down toward the covered bridge is a road again.
