The Moose River threads through Concord on its way to the Connecticut, and Route 2 follows it past Miles Pond toward the colder corners of the Kingdom. Harold's Concrete Construction keeps the ground along that road in order — mowing and trimming from a late green-up through the last warm week of September. Winter here is long and makes no apology for it, so the plowing starts early and keeps going: drives opened, dooryards squared off, sand where the grade runs downhill toward the pavement. There is a plain satisfaction in a cleared driveway at six in the morning with the river still steaming behind it. Lawn and snow work in Concord and the towns around it.
